Coaching Supervision
There are many definitions of supervision. DP like the simple clarity of the EMCC Global Code of Ethics:
“A safe space for reflective dialogue with a practising supervisor, supporting the supervisee’s practice, development and well-being.”
In essence, our purpose is to assist the coach to do their job better.
You could describe it as your “coaches’ scaffolding, providing them with support, stretch and sustenance.“ (Barton, 2024).
“The hardest thing to attend to is that which is closest to ourselves, that which is most constant and familiar. And this closest “something” is, precisely, ourselves, our own habits and ways of doing things.”
John Dewey
DPs approach to coaching supervision
We offer group and one to one supervision to support coaches. The supervision activities are all overseen by Julia Duncan, a vastly experienced, professional coaching supervisor.
Julia provides a safe space for reflective dialogue and learning. Her aim, to support coaches practice, development and well-being.
Supervision activities can range from a group action learning approach to observed peer coaching sessions.

The purpose of supervision can be 3-fold:
- The Developmental function, which is about the development of a coach’s skills, knowledge, understanding and personal attributes; thus helping them to become an increasingly competent practitioner.
- The Resourcing function, which is about providing a supportive space for the coach to process their experiences when working with clients.
- The Qualitative function, where the supervisor helps to ensure that the quality of the coach’s practices and standards are highly professional and ethical.
